Taylor Hawkins is an American musician, best known as the drummer for the rock band Foo Fighters. He joined the band in 1997, replacing former drummer William Goldsmith. Hawkins was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on February 17, 1972. His father worked as a sound engineer, and his mother was a high school teacher. Hawkins grew up in Laguna Beach, California. He began playing drums when he was eight years old.
Hawkins attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he studied jazz percussion. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Hawkins’ first professional gig was with Alanis Morissette on her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill. He also played on her subsequent tours.
In 1997, Foo Fighters founder and frontman Dave Grohl asked Hawkins to join the band. Grohl had been impressed by Hawkins’ drumming on Jagged Little Pill. Hawkins has appeared on all of Foo Fighters’ studio albums, including their debut album, Foo Fighters (1995), which features the hit single “Big Me”.
